Maui Jiu-Jitsu athletes win titles in Las Vegas
Three Maui athletes brought home gold last weekend from the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s American National Kids Championship in Las Vegas.
Miles Hu, Mason Hu and Zara DeSilva of Maui Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Haiku all won their divisions at the tournament.
Miles Hu took first place in the male pee-wee 2 grey light division, Mason Hu won the male junior 3 grey light division and DeSilva placed first in the female teen 3 yellow heavy division. Their championships helped Maui place seventh overall in the team standings.
Other top finishers for Maui included silver medalists Narra Elena Silva Tyrrell (female pee-wee 3 grey feather), Isabel Melia Best (female junior 3 grey medium-heavy), Kanoelani Kekiwi-Jones (female teen 2 yellow light) and Kanoa Iwankiw (male teen 3 yellow light); and bronze medalists Nash Best (male junior 2 grey feather) and James McCall (male teen 3 grey feather).

Morrison of Kapalua records hole-in-one
Gary Morrison of Kapalua made a hole-in-one at The Dunes at Maui Lani on Friday.
Morrison aced the 17th hole from 150 yards while using a 5-iron. Ed Schavitz, Richard Izumi and S.F. Cishby witnesses the shot.

Peterson of Washington has ace at Maui Lani
Dan Peterson of Bellevue, Wash., made a hole-in-one on June 28 at The Dunes at Maui Lani.
Peterson used a 9-iron to ace the 142-yard 17th hole. Witnesses were Marianne Peterson, John Peterson and Nick Peterson.
